It’s great to be CFSD!

If you ask the CFSD Students First slate why we’re running for the Governing Board, each of us will tell you we love this school district and we want to keep CFSD on its current trajectory of excellence for future CFSD students.

We are pro-CFSD, and if we sound like CFSD cheerleaders, it’s because we are. Here are just a few of the reasons we think it’s great to be CFSD:

CFSD offers programming that includes something for everyone.  In addition to “reading, writing and arithmetic”, our curriculum includes:

  • Chinese and Spanish immersion and comprehensive World Language programs;

  • Gifted, Extended and Read Strong supports;

  • A breathtaking array of Visual and Performing arts to tickle any child’s creative side;

  • A commitment to regular PE;

  • 24 Advanced Placement offerings;

  • 10 Career and Technical Education pathways;

  • Robotics or computer science at every level.

CFSD’s student attendance rate is over 90% - an astonishing statistic that is a clear measure of the level of engagement of CFSD’s students. Compare this to the Arizona Department of Education’s (ADE) most recent data showing a chronic absenteeism rate for schools at 28%.

In 2024, CFSD graduated over 95% of the senior class with 90% of them pursuing education beyond high school. NOTE: The graduation rate on the ADE’s website is a bit lower because it includes the entire cohort of students that enrolled in CFSD as freshmen, even if they left mid-high school and enrolled elsewhere.

The class of 2024 earned over 16 million dollars in merit scholarships at a dizzying array of schools from around the country.  This level of scholarship is typical for CFSD’s graduating class.

CFSD enjoys an enviable level of parental involvement and volunteerism. In addition to that parental involvement, we’re surrounded by a greater community that knows what a gem it has in CFSD.   This community consistently votes to tax themselves to support our programs. That’s why you see:

  • The beautiful new orchestra and guitar building on the high school campus;

  • Facilities that are in excellent shape;

  • The addition of new school buses to the fleet;

  • Students benefiting from the use of top-notch technology in their classrooms, science labs, and art rooms.

CFSD students consistently earn the highest scores on statewide testing. The District has been named the top AZ public school district in the Niche rankings for 7 years in a row, and all of our schools are rated A by the Arizona Department of Education.

CFSD is committed to Social Emotional Learning. The District’s ENVISION21 –Deep Learning Strategic Plan, initiated back in 2012, made a strong commitment to the same shared core values that are supported by Social Emotional Learning.  Though it wasn’t called SEL back then, it’s what our strategic plan calls for and is key to the academic and personal development of our students.  Stay tuned to this newsletter for a larger discussion of the benefits of SEL for our students.

These are just some of the reasons why we’re huge supporters of CFSD’s approach to learning and academic success.  Your CFSD Students First slate of candidates pledges to protect the great things currently happening within the walls of CFSD schools and to use the framework of CFSD’s strategic plan to collaborate with District administration to help the school district move forward and adapt to future challenges.
